Import files into Coggle

You can import both plain-text .txt files, and XML-based .mm and (experimentally, .mmap) files into Coggle. First create a new diagram, then drag & drop the file to be imported from a folder on your computer onto the open diagram page. Its contents will immediately be imported!

The indentation from a plain-text file will be converted into the branching structure of the diagram. Unicode characters are supported: make sure that the file is saved with the UTF-8 encoding before importing it to ensure unicode characters are displayed correctly.

Files can also be imported as branches in existing diagrams: just drag the file onto an existing diagram, instead of creating a new document first. The new branches will be attached to the closest existing branch at the point the file is dropped.

Supported import types:

  • .txt plain text files: the indentation of the file is used to create the branch structure
  • .mm mindmap files, sometimes called freemind (saved by many programs)
  • .mmap mindmanager files: support for these is experimental, please report any issues, along with an example file to hello@coggle.it
